Think Outside the Cell is an imprint of Resilience Multimedia, an independent publisher specializing in quality fiction and nonfiction books about African-American and Latino culture, experiences and aspirations.
An unprecedented surge in readership of gritty urban fiction among African-Americans and Latinos in recent years speaks to the hunger for books that reflect the realities of urban life. But most books in this genre reduce the vast wealth of experiences in African-American and Latino communities to damaging and predictable stereotypes. Resilience Multimedia and its Think Outside the Cell imprint were born of the belief that vast segments of these communities – our communities – want and deserve more.
Sheila Rule is founder and publisher of Resilience Multimedia, which is located in New York City. A lover of books since childhood and a journalist for The New York Times for more than 30 years, she has a lifetime respect for the power of words and a passion for the stories of black folks.
